Coventry's nightlife is scattered around the City in blocks, rather than one street or area, and is improving every year.
The Skydome Complex is a redeveloped area, built in 1999 and located on the western edge of the ring road next to IKEA. This complex consists of bars, restaurants, nightclubs a multiplex cinema, casino and a 3000 seat ice hockey and ice skating arena. This area tends to be the area where younger people head to at the weekend but there really is something available for all ages. Nightclubs here include JJ's (formerly Jumpin' Jaks).
Spoon Street is a medieval street that runs from Corporation Street in the centre of the city to the west up to the Skydome area. This street contains some of the more traditional bars and pubs that are popular with older people as well as those wanting pre-nightclub drinks before going to the Skydome area. Bars of note include The Old Windmill Inn (known locally as Ma Brown's) and the restaurants Blue Bistro (formerly 1450 Cafe Bar) serving modern British cuisine, Turmeric Gold (Indian,), Court 6 (Indian) and Kakooti (Italian).
Heading east from the city centre through the area where Coventry University is located. Jordon Well / Far Gosford Street is an area popular with students. Jordon Well passes under the ring road towards Far Gosford Street. There is a small concentration of pubs here, The Phoenix, The Oak Inn and Whitefriars. Many tend to end the night by moving on to Scholars nightclub, a small nightclub with an alternative music policy or Kasbah which is a large alternative nightclub and live music venue in Hillfields, just outside the city centre, near Pool Meadow bus station..
